A few weeks ago I wrote about our bike ride when Big Daddy lost the key to our van and the remote control door opener attached to it. I went to the rec center the next day and asked if anyone had turned in missing keys, and then posted three signs at various spots along the trail offering a reward. I wasn’t too worried about finding it since we did have another key with remote plus one more spare key without the remote but Big Daddy said he’d like to get it back. After a few days of not hearing anything, I assumed it was lost forever in some kid’s sandbox or hidden in some weeds along the trail. Well, today Big Daddy got a call on his cell phone from a guy that said he’d spotted our keys in a portajohn along the trail. He also said he’d advise bringing a bag or something because he believed it had been at the bottom of the pit. (I can’t even let my mind think about this). Big Daddy went to get them, even though we kind of doubted they would still work from being exposed to the elements (or worse) all this time.
Big Daddy came home with the key which looked slightly corroded and abused. But after putting new batteries in it, it still worked. He found the key laying on the flat surface of the portajohn like the guy had said. Big Daddy is pretty sure that it was only mud that covered the key. That’s entirely possible as the whole area is nothing but a shitty mudhole thanks to the rain that will not stop!! Someone could have just decided to rescue the key from the muddy trail and place it in the portajohn to be found. Also, Big Daddy said that when they clean out those toilets, they do so with a big hose that would have just sucked up the keys never to be found again. I hope he’s right. Either way, I told him I will continue using the keys I’m using now and that one can now be the spare set. I don’t really want to touch it. Ever.
We don’t know who the guy is that called us but Big Daddy has his number on his cell. Although the man never mentioned it, Big Daddy’s going to call him tomorrow to offer him the reward.
