Saturday Musings on Procreation

I saw Soldier Son online today at work.  I sent an IM that went something like this:  “It’s Saturday and I’m at the office.  Boo-hoo.”  I didn’t really expect any sympathy.  He works 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week in Iraq.  Well, he said sometimes the shifts are a little shorter on weekends.  The Army sure gets its moneys worth out of those soldiers.  Calculating the per hour rate, it’s called slavery in some places.

He said that an Iraqi soldier had stopped by with a couple of his little daughters–about 4 or 5 years old.  He said they were sooo adorable.  I’m so glad Soldier Son likes kids.  He’s always been really good with them.  He’ll make a great dad someday.  He’s the type of person who should have children.  Smart, good-hearted, well-raised himself.  He’s totally not selfish.  In fact, sometimes he’s too generous.  We need people like him to raise the next generation.

I am very concerned that the world is dumbing itself down.  We’re starting to see the results.  Just read the news.  The very people who are conscientious and worried about overpopulating the earth are the very ones that should be contributing to the gene pool.  But they’re not having many kids.  They think they’re doing good, but the balance is shifting dangerously.  Millions of people who really don’t have the means or the resources are populating the planet like rabbits.  Many more who may have the financial means, but not the emotional maturity to raise productive human beings are raising a generation of  self-absorbed brats or troubled wounded individuals.

Who is going to take care of the future masses?  People that love their children enough to raise them responsibly, instill a good work ethic, set a decent moral example, and do the work involved to produce productive citizens should not be afraid to populate the world.  Their children may be the ones to solve the energy crisis, rule the world with diplomacy, and save the planet from extinction.

Yep.  I want lots of grandkids someday.

I’ve told him a million times about what a good dad he’d make. Not that I’m rushing ANYWHERE with the baby thing quite yet. Sheesh. No way. But he’s so good with my little brother. Luke has even by passed Dad to run to Chris before! Haha! Ouch. What a sting for dad, but Chris looked pretty pleased.

I know. His little cousins jump all over him and he just takes them for piggyback rides and stuff. But yeah. No rushing into anything, yet. 🙂

NICE! Love how you got on your soapbox just to remind the kiddos that you want to be a Grandma. Seriously though, we are required to go through more training to drive a car (which is important to do properly and safely of course) than we do to become parents. Any moron can get laid and reproduce. And we have to deal with them every day!!!!
